Review of Any Given Sunday (1999) by Dave H — 02 Sep 2008
Teaming up with producer Richard Donner, this is one of Stone's most commercial, and thus possibly maybe least interesting films. No standard Stone controversy or conspiracy theory theme, simply a fascinating tale of a flagging NFL team from behind the scenes.
One of the best overall casts I can remember in a film, led by a surprisingly subdued (but typically great) Pacino mesh seamlessly with Stone's typically brilliant directing and editing, and his usual hope-in-the-darkness themes.
