Review of Any Given Sunday (1999) by Dustin J — 08 Oct 2009
I liked this movie. It's not an honest portrayal of an NFL (or in Any Given Sunday's case, an American Football Franchises Association) locker room.
For some reason, I had a hard time believing Al Pacino as a football coach. Dennis Quaid is believeable as an aging quarterback, as is Jamie Foxx as the young, brash, Donovan McNabb style QB.
It portrays the best and worst of professional football, the feel-good story of Jamie Foxx's character, Willie Beamen, to Cameron Diaz's character, Christina Pagnacci, trying to squeeze a new stadium out of the city of Miami and Al Pacino's character, Tony D'Amato, stessed relationships between the team doctor, Dr. Harvey Mandrake (James Woods), and the press, especially Jack Rose (John C. McGinley).
Oliver Stone had a few mistakes while making this film, but I still feel it's a touchdown.
