Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Craig W — 04 Oct 2009

I've always seen those bizarre connections between fantasy and reality. The entire time I was watching Anvil I thought I was seeing a sequel to Spinal Tap; no, a REAL LIFE Spinal Tap. I knew that movie was making fun of all of those metal bands but I never thought an actual band had all those mishaps.

Anyway, it's rare to see a band go through all that garbage in the music industry and still have the courage and the drive to keep going. To see Lips almost beat up someone for getting stiffed the money he was owed, the guys missing their scheduled trains, in-band fighting, and almost everything else you've seen in Spinal Tap is shocking and that's why I love it.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying this is a Spinal Tap ripoff, because it's not. The musicians and writers at the beginning of the film were correct in one fact; they should've made it a lot bigger. To see two fifty-somethings still looking for that one break is almost a tear-jerker and I've never shed a tear when viewing movies.

I guess being a metal fan drew me into this film. I didn't even see the movie and I bought the first Anvil album 'Hard-N-Heavy' and after I saw it I went out and got 'Metal On Metal' along with their new album.

Overall, I'll be glad to spend the 19.99 or whatever the price will be for the DVD when it comes out on October 6. Anvil: The Story Of Anvil is one of those rare films that make you feel like this is my movie, this was made for me.
