Review of Antonia's Line (1995) by Jens T — 06 Feb 2011
My opinion about Antonia's Line, is that it's nice to look at, but it's full of unoriginal material. But I do like the twist the whole film is taking, but it's not worth watching when the rest of the film feels to long, that no point of return doesn't seem that exciting.
This is the story about Antonia and her daughter Danielle who's return to Antonia's dutch hometown after the second world war. The town itself is a wreck, also when it's come to the people who live's there. For example: A protestant women is howling at the moon every night. A hunchback and a literature lover called Crooked Finger who's never is outside the house. All these people are all effected by Antonia's presents, she changes all their lifes for the good. A theme not so unlike from Lasse Hallström's Chocolat.
Antonia a very bitter and to smooth picture. It's like a donut with to much sprinkles and sugar. Not my type of movie, not one I can recommend. But if have to, I would recommend it as a daytime soap opera.
