Review of Antiviral (2012) by Roshan S — 13 Feb 2013
David Cronenberg's first feature film hits close to home and follows the style of his father-a master of venereal horror-as it presents a very unique image of the future where celebrity obsession has gone to the point where people buy diseases harvested from their cells.
The film makes great use of negative space and minimalism to create a sense of emptiness and unease. From pristine, clean rooms of a medical facility to the dark rundown basement of a celebrity meat shop, a minimal color palette adds to the overall mood of the film, combined with unconventional cinematography, humming ambient soundtrack, and some truly striking stills, this is a great debut feature from cronenberg and a great addition to the body horror genre.
