Review of Antitrust (2001) by Tara S — 07 Jul 2007
What they call Antitrust is actually the third in a trilogy of movies that fall under the title "Hackers." The original Hackers was perfect- kitschy, ridiculous, getting the overall points right but badly fucking up the details.
Hackers 2 was a completely different animal, more along the lines of a Michael Moore documentary. This flick for some reason thought that it was an actual movie that needed "production values." That is not what you need from a Hackers movie.
It's like trying to watch porn that thinks it needs a plot: I'm only looking for the money shot. The money shot in hackers are references to geeky terms and a refusal to explain geeky terms and forcing the audience to either understand or be left out in the cold.
You need technology that's completely impossible (provided here) but ridiculously cool (provided here to a point). Unfortunately, this seemed more like an anti-Microsoft propaganda movie that wasn't even very well thought out.
If you're a nerd, you'll probably like this movie just because of the nerd aspect. If you're not, you're better off skipping it.
