Review of Anthropoid (2016) by Mark K — 25 Aug 2016
A great movie! It is not your typical Hollywood superhero drivel. The movie is a British/ Czech collaboration - filmed in Prague and Bohemia in the now Czech Republic. Unlike a Hollywood production that takes a true story and then transforms it into entertainment - Anthropoid is realistic - in it's filming, sets, actors and the telling of the true story.
Some critics complain that it starts slow - but it shows the real life build up to what is a seminal moment in Czech history - including the ending - which was told to me years ago by a Swiss co-worker - when I was in in Europe for work training.
It is a legendary story of bravery and heroism. The last half hour is also one of the most intense war battles/ shootouts filmed in many decades. Heart pounding and the images are hauntingly burned into my memory.
5 stars! A must see for anyone who is interested in previously untold history of WWII, great cinema - or just an incredible battle scene!
