Review of Another Year (2010) by W. M. L — 19 Jan 2011
This is a delightful british film that basically takes you through the life of an older couple (probably 60's or so) for a year. they have some interesting people in their lives, most of whom are depressed; the couple themselves are extremely happy, content and in love with each other; this love carries over to these people around them that are not as happy; the character "Mary" is brilliantly played by Lesley Manville - she alone is worth seeing the film, she is a brilliant actress, and sincerely makes you feel her characters pain as a middle aged alcoholic woman who is all alone; there are no great statements made in this film, nor things learned, but it is 129 minutes that is very well spent indeed!
