Mike Leigh is my kind of director. His movies are very European like , yet they are in English - Perfect!
Some people say his films a little too depressing but I'm not in that camp , I just think they are very real to life and I'm fascinated by them.
Another year is a Mike Leigh gem , beautifully acted by Jim Broadbent , Ruth Sheen and especially Lesley Manville , we see into the lives of a couple who are so perfect to the extent that I didn't like them very much and a woman who is so desperately lonely that she will cling on to any form of relationship just for a bit of company.
The dialogue is fascinating , as it always is in Leigh films , while the story is just the year in the life of a group of friends that have very different outlooks on life.
