Review of Another Year (2010) by Mohamed F — 22 Apr 2011
Though it merits strongly for its character development, and hinting to their past through the very little that is shown on screen, and the direction which captured all the tine emotional details perfectly and skilfully, the scrip itself was very lacking, the events that took place were minimal and the overall product was a tad below satisfying, not to mention the aspect of time, it wasn't well integrated or handled, despite what the title might implicate.
This movie was one of the strongest contenders at Cannes last year, IMO, the best movies that really deserved to win the top prizes were as follows..
Biutiful by Iñarritu (Palme d'or), Poetry by Chang-dong (Grand prix), Another Year by Leigh (Best Director) and Uncle Boonme by Pong (Prix du jury).
