Review of Another Year (2010) by Foong M — 05 Jul 2011
This is a superb movie that is strongly recommended to watch! The director uses all marvelous actors, where all of them played ordinary couple with ordinary stories happened in our daily life.
The most outstanding is of course, Lesley Manville, who played a lonely and eclectic Mary, showed the helplessness of a divorced woman with only her co-worker as her best friend to share her thoughts with. While Jim Broadbent as Tom and Gerri played by Ruth Sheen are this happy, emphatic couple that like to help friends around. The entire movie portrays the most ordinary couple that happens in our daily life, and adding humor to the already sorrowful, suffering life.
Another good actress that attracts me was Karina Fernandez, who played Katie, the girl friend of Joe. Overall the movie is a splendid work with meaningful message!
Must Watch! All I can say is that, the film director, Mike Leigh, is a great director! Not only he gets all great actors and actresses to the film, but also the photography and script are splendid!
