The acting is excellent (particularly Lesley Manville), and the director has artistic touches and shows patience in well-placed lingering shots. But the humor so evident in the trailer was sorely lacking in the movie itself.
Instead, be prepared for a close examination of the depths of human melancholy. Some critics call this "life affirming," but I found it to be depressing.
