Review of Another Year (2010) by Matt D — 04 Aug 2012

I went into this one expecting the usual feel-good "we're getting older but still loving life" kinda movie but boy was I wrong. The story being told here is actually quite grim. There seems to be an attempt to balance the good and bad that a year can bring about but the film is populated with so many miserable characters its hard to feel optimistic.

Leigh's direction though is superb and Lesley Manville's performance is worthy of many accolades.
