Review of Another Woman (1988) by Mark S — 01 Sep 2012
This is one for which on a given day my rating could be different. It's certainly admirable, but I'd say I only enjoyed it in parts. Gena Rowlands is very cold and unengaging in it, but I think that's supposed to be entirely the point, so it's hard to criticise her for it but at the same time it's difficult to like her characterisation.
There are certain Woody Allen films that have clear hallmarks of his love of Bergman and I think this is one of them, but I'd say it's only on a par with some of Bergman's lesser works. Still, that isn't bad.
