Review of Another Earth (2011) by Paul P — 08 Jan 2012
An unusual and thoughtful tale that places a focus on characters rather than the more fantastical elements of the story.
I love a good indie flick (they seem to have become a rare speices of late) and the mix of a story of regret alongside a larger Sci-Fi premise really intrigued me. Brit Marling pretty much carries the film with a quiet grace that centres the film really nicely. There is a real indie feel throughout the film and the visual style reflects this. From an effects perspective, they are done quite sedately with little views of Earth 2 being seen in the outdoor shots. It is not a showy film and it is all the better for it.
Whilst the core story is not all that orignal, the idea of being able to potentially redeem yourslef on Another earth made this a good watch which doesn't outstay its welcome.
Entertaining and thoughtful, this is a little gem of a film....
