Another Earth is interesting film, it has depth of characterization; and main role is very well played by Brit Marling. It's very well directed and has some beautiful shots, especially regarding Earth 2 coming closer and closer. Earth 2 is also biggest minus to the picture: why the other Earth don't affect the tide, gravity pull from another Earth should be so strong that consequences should be terrible!?

Philosophically this movie points out the human necessity to be original (why is another earth Earth 2 and not ours, what is a guarantee that we're not copies?) and also fear of the similar (or the same). Nothing will afraid us more then possibility of another us.

But then, Rhoda Williams as character is a bit of a failure; although as I pointed out characterization is good, it needs a little more twist and reasoning when she makes her decisions that are crucial to the plot. Those are made rashly and that is easily avoided in the script, so its hard to find justification.

I couldn't help but wonder is this movie affected by Lars von Trier "Melancholia", because some shots are quite similar to that movie. To summarize - "Another Earth" is lovely movie but it has inadequacies that could easily be avoided which is pity because motion picture that had a great potential (in spite some great moments) stayed just on average scale. Seems like a good bottle of champagne that is drunk to quickly. Not enough time left for enjoyment.
