Review of Another Earth (2011) by Kye Kye C — 04 Jun 2012
Imagine you could meet yourself, but not the you that exists right now. Another you, a different you...the you that you wished existed. The you that never let the phrase, "What If" control their life. What would you say to that you, how would you feel about that you? Would you love and accept that you? Or would you despise that you for never letting fear or the unknown stop them?
Would you even begin to hate yourself for not gaining control and and letting, "What If" define you? Could you forgive yourself and move on?
Write these questions down and then watch "Another Earth". For each of these questions will be asked and all of them answered.
This endearing small film is one of the most inspiring films I have ever seen. It has made me want to truly become the person I know I must be. The threatening "What If'" can no longer control me.
From an incredible cast of complete unknowns to the universal story of self discover and forgiveness that we all know and hate to love, "Another Earth" is a film that must be seen, and whose themes and questions must be explored.
Not since Jennifer Lawrence in "Winter's Bone" has an indie actress given so much to a film. Brit Marling as Rhoda Williams gives a completely honest and transparent performance that adds even more depth to a film that is as deep as the Pacific.
For those that want a film to shake them and truly make them think about life and what it means to live and live right, give "Another Earth" a try.
