A fantastic conspiracy period piece from Roland Emmerich. He defies his summer blockbuster stereotype and delivers a moody, dramatic thriller that poses the question: What if Shakespeare was a fraud?
The actors and actresses bring this movie to life. Most are covered in great costumes and facial hair and they not instantly recognizable. The performances are excellent, and the characters are fleshed out in plenty of flashbacks.
It mixes fiction, history, and those with a little bit of knowledge of Shakespeare's work will enjoy it even more. Simply a great dramatic thriller done with lots of flair and style.
