Review of Anonymous (2011) by Ken T — 21 Feb 2012
"MY PO-EMS ARE MY SOUL" oh no... not a line like this... Emmerich tries to produce something of quality and fails again. Shakespeare is an illiterate opportunist and moron, and the real bard is the Earl of Oxford.
A surprisingly big name cast of quality actors who try, despite spouting some bad dialogue (Shakespeare in Love this is not). It would have been nice to approach this material in a much more serious and less cartoonish fashion, but that definitely would not be Emmerich's style.
What I will say works here are the beautiful costumes, some nice shots and the homage to Olivier's Henry V at the beginning. A snoozer.
