Review of Anonymous (2011) by Daniel K — 27 Feb 2012
3: Like Shakespeare in Love, I suspect this film will also not have the legs necessary to withstand the test of time, but it was thoroughly engrossing and thought provoking this time around. The notion that an aristocrat wrote the plays credited to William Shakespeare is a fascinating and very believable one, but I'm sure the right way to approach the argument is from a more scholarly perspective, even if this was more entertaining.
It's the kind of question one wants to know everything about, so one can adequately weigh all of the evidence. Still, I'm very glad it was dramaticized on the screen, even if the story is a little too incredible for belief and the director is Roland Emmerich.
