Review of Anonymous (2011) by Ibrahim M — 29 Aug 2012
Providing a high concept idea, Anonymous tries hard to be interesting but falls short thanks to a lengthy running time and too much filler. It's a great and intriguing idea that Shakespeare was infact a fraud and was merely a pubilic face for another playwright.
Rhys Ifans plays the stand out performance in this role proving to carry the film on his own shoulders. It's snappy opening soon looses it's pace as the narrative jumps back and forth trying to add mystery into the mix.
It is however very well directed, Emmerich has for once toned back on his destruction and opted for quite a stylish period look. As decent as it is to watch, it won't have me re-visiting.
