Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Martin G — 16 Jan 2016
Charlie Kaufman's follow up to Synecdoche, New York has arrived. And it has arrived in quite a big way. Of course this is a claymation film and it is the best looking of its type. Granted there are only 3 voice actors the animation brings the characters to life and in Kaufman's regular style.
He describes the life we all live in a very absurdist but genius way recalling his other writing credits like, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the amazing Synecdoche, New York. Though this is not as deep as Synecdoche, New York it is in the same vein and follows many of the same themes.
But it not being as deep is good and I find that if you didn't quite like Synecdoche, New York this will be much more digestible. Thanks to Kaufman we all have once again a beautiful piece of art in a world where absurdism is almost completely gone.
Please I challenge you to see this and for your own opinions on it because even if the story and themes don't matter to you its wildly entertaining and had my theater laughing consistently.
