Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Facebook U — 30 Sep 2017
It's fitting how this incredibly small-scale story is told through actual, physically small figures posing in tiny locations. And that fitting-ness is just the start of the chain of coinciding moments of irony that make up what makes "Anomalisa" so unique.
Charlie Kaufman's films have always revolved around seemingly unrelated events and situations becoming related in strange ways, and while things don't get as wild as they do in "Synecdoche New York" or "Being John Malkovich," his signature storytelling and world-building habits and practices are just as present here, and possibly even more effective.
