Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Marc B — 01 Feb 2016
The woman behind us commented after the movie "If my husband was here, I'd be making up to him for weeks." My "Downton Abbey" wife asked the "cerebral action movie" me if I liked the movie less than she did? Critics with superlatives and "funy" misrepresented, imo.
Weird and sad and disturbing, yes. But not a movie you want to wake up to. On my scale, I checked my watch at least 3 times during the mercifully "only 90 minute" flick. Specifically, I don't know why the animated faces needed to be cracked, why the animated "gay" scene, why the mask fell off the animated character, why the perseverating message of sameness that was done so nicely (and better) in a Twilight Zone episode.
Movie may appeal as unusal, seeking to depict a boring reality in bizarre animation. But too downlifting for me.
