Alex Garland's "Annihilation" is a unique, puzzling, and visually stunning work of science fiction. I found the movie to be interesting the whole way through and think it is a well-made movie.

Visually the movie is both beautiful at times and horrifying in others, but all of it is effective. I do feel for the most part the movie builds tension and maintains an eerie atmosphere that kept me on the edge of my seat.

However, there still are segments that felt uneventful and slow, but even during these moments, you are treated to some impressive visuals. Natalie Portman does a good job in the lead role and her character carries the movie.

There is a subplot in the movie that I felt doesn't really fit or contribute to the rest of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was just missing something. I did not see the final act of this movie coming and I feel that is where audiences will be most divided.

I enjoyed the last act of the movie but I am still trying to fully understand what exactly happened. The ambiguous nature of the film leaves plenty of room for discussions to be had. The film certainly isn't for mainstream audiences, but if you're a fan of movies that'll leave you scratching your head and leaving you wanting to know more, this one is worth checking out.
