Review of Annihilation (2018) by Chris J — 16 Apr 2018
Annihilation is an interesting movie with deeper cultural and psychological meanings. Reading through these reviews, it seems as though people are taking this movie and concepts way too literal. You don't need to understand these meanings or ask why it's only a team of women that are going into the Shimmer. The only thing the audience needs to know is that these characters want answers, and all are willing to risk their lives to find them. Which we find out by the end the answer (or maybe there just isn't an answer), and people who have the answer can never be the same again.
I am a Sci-Fi geek. I love Sci-Fi movies. Especially movies that keeps the audience wondering, and this is one of those movies. With visual effects that will blow the audience away to horror that might remind you of Event Horizon, this movie had just about everything I wanted when it comes to Sci-Fi. Whether the leads are women, men, aliens, or monsters doesn't matter to me. The ambiguity and wonder that is Annihilation is something that true fans of Sci-Fi can enjoy. To someone who is considering watching this movie, I hope this review helps your decision.
