Review of Annihilation (2018) by Marcin G — 17 Mar 2018
As a movie on its own rights is good fun with well-told story and even better designs and visuals.
But as a fan of "Southern Reach" books, I can't understand how Jeff VanderMeer , author of the books, who was as well involved in making the movie, could allow for such changes, The story shown in the movie has nothing to do with the first book and the way it ends makes it impossible to screen the two other parts. Unless they will make them totally different than books.
I can only think about "Solaris" but at least as far as I know Stanislaw Lem didn't like the way they have changed the whole story.
Calling this movie "Annihilation", for me, is purely marketing trick. Before watching it I was hoping somebody will make a movie based on another great book by VanderMeer, "Borne", but now, if it was the same approach as "Annihilation", I will stick with the book.
Why change a great into good?
