"Annie Hall" is extremely clever, inventive, and humorous. What keeps us interested is not the relationship between Allen and Keaton, but rather, Allen on his own, who boasts a delightfully cynical and pessimistic outlook on love and life.
The lead's runaway imagination allows for some truly creative moments, as he literally steps back in time and breaks the fourth wall.
