Review of Annie Hall (1977) by David S — 13 Nov 2010
If only all Woody Allen movies could be this good! This is the best of his I've ever seen. In this work, he shines as a humble, human, and self-aware storyteller and sensitive filmmaker, not to mention sophisticated humorist.
What is particularly powerful is that almost the entire movie flies by so smoothly and sweetly, that you don't even notice until the very end that somehow, as a viewer, you've formed a strong connection with the two main characters.
And one more pleasant surprise - it was refreshingly urbane, realistic, and personal, a great diversion from films with a message or a flashy premise.
