Review of Annie Hall (1977) by Vanessa G — 15 Jan 2013
The film that made Woody Allen the quintessential master of the romantic comedy-drama. Annie Hall is every post-modernists dream film. A film that breaks through the fourth wall with hilarity and a whimsical self-awareness.
It's a film with a happy ending, without the happy ending. Spoiler: he doesn't get the girl in the end, but he's okay with it. It's the journey that matters, not the end. Keaton is unforgettable as the quirky titular character.
Scenes worth remembering: Allen and Keaton interacting with subtitles on the rooftop over wine and the scene at Keaton's family's dinner table.
