Review of Annie (2014) by Ding C — 24 Jan 2015
This is a modern adaptation and the third of three attempts to translate the musical into a movie. People from my generation who saw the first adaptation will find this version very disappointing because of two things; originally the story is set in an era where innocence and depth exist and prosperity is well deserved things that do not measure up in today's modern times. And because this version tried its very best to make this version very different from its predecessors somehow the songs lost its purpose and the music lost its rhythm which really made this film a little bit pretentious. I thought they were better off making this into a straight movie rather than a movie with music.
At the risk of being accused of being a racist, I did like the original Annie and Daddy Warbucks, now Mr. Stacks. Casting was a little off tangent from the lead down to the dog Sandy. It was a little difficult for me to connect with the current cast probably because I had expected something like the first version.
