Review of Annie (2014) by Kevin R — 11 Apr 2015
We all have family someplace.
Annie is a down on her luck orphan that tries to make the best of any situation. She has developed a series of friends in the neighborhood. One day while walking home from school she is whisked out of the street by an equally down on his luck billionaire that wishes to become mayor of New York. Pictures are taken and the gesture is a hit. The billionaire temporarily adopts Annie in hopes of winning the election and an adventure ensues for Annie.
"I don't eat hobo food.".
Will Gluck, director of Fired Up, Easy A, and Friends with Benefits, delivers Annie. The storyline for this picture is a nice modernization of the original. The characters are interesting and the songs remain fun. The acting was also quirky and entertaining. The cast includes Jaime Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Quvenzhane Walliz, Bobby Cannavale, David Zayas, Rose Byrne, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
"I think I'm going to like it here.".
My girlfriend was excited to see this so we grabbed it from Red Box and we watched it as a family. We all giggled throughout and enjoyed this pretty much from beginning to end. I found this better than I anticipated and thought it was clever and funny. I recommend seeing this once but I probably won't add it to my DVD collection.
"I didn't tell you how I was almost Hootie's Blowfish!".
Grade: B.
