Review of Annabelle: Creation (2017) by Andrew F — 19 Aug 2017
Being the sequel to a generally mixed receive horror (which personally I enjoyed), Annabelle Creation sees a dramatic change in the franchise to a all round stronger entry to the Conjuring franchise and a generally warmer received entry than its predecessor.
With a cast largely dependant on its two young female actresses both, Bateman and Wilson give extremely great performances, taking in mind the fact of their age and in a horror, both their performances are very strong, if not some of the best child acting in horror films (if not in all films).
As well the supporting cast, especially Sigman and all the other girls, are also very strong, Sigman as a nun whom works with the girls sees the strongest supporting role, essential to the story line and generally very well cast, Annabelle Creation fears not to boast off their strong cast.
Providing a rather chilling and surprisingly very scary scenes (especially the last 20 minutes), Annabelle Creation provides more scares than each and every entry to the Conjuring franchise combined. What made this so remarkable was how the scares were done, they were not the typically jumping shadows scares you would expect to see from this franchise, there were on screen, fully viable scares as well.
What should also be applauded is how this is so different to a lot of generic horrors, this is a suspense/ supernatural horror franchise, yet there was many scares which were taking from either horror genres (especially ones including a lot of blood).
Easter-eggs of the real Annabelle doll was a very smart addition and sneak into the movie, which people whom are familiar with the real life Annabelle, also the way this prequel links into the first Annabelle film was very well done.
Living up to the previous entries to the Conjuring franchise, Annabelle Creation falls slightly short of each Conjuring film but due to how strong each of those entries were, is anyone surprised.
Despite this however, Annabelle Creation serves up the best horror of 2017 so far, show cases spectacular child acting and a fresh entry to the so far very strong Conjuring franchise.
Final verdict - 7.7/10 or B.
