Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Jun K — 17 Feb 2013
Stunned by its visual, not bc its just gorgeous, but stylistic mise en scene that mesmerizingly portrays the characters n the world that they live in. This film combines both cinematic n theatric, the way that I never seen before; if I may bold, dir Powell n Pressberger would like this film very much.
From the opening to the end, this film must been planned out in every details. I could not believe how the camera gradually flows between the sets to show the transition. Also the sound helps so much; Anna's fan with subtle horse steps is def noteworthy.
Great performance all around, but the story is def muddy, n could of used better character development/transition; this does not happen often, but I felt the film needs to be about 20/30min longer.
