Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Aephraim S — 14 Mar 2013
Visually sumptuous, and a creative melding of theatrical & cinematic idiom, all well executed by some stellar actors. Beyond that... frankly, it's hard to pay close enough attention to the content of yet another rendition of this story to even decide if I liked it or not, if it had anything new to say or not, et cetera.
Keira Knightley certainly did an excellent job of covering the range of personalities Anna can embody or seem to embody. Jude Law an excellent foil, MacFadyen perhaps ideal for Oblomov, and while Gleeson was not at all my original picture of Levin, he proved to be a truly excellent one in the end.
Anyway, it's worth seeing just for the visuals and the choreography (as it were)...
