Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Open 7 — 08 Jun 2013
Sumptuous costumes do not disguise ba self-indulgent art house film that puts the stage setting, from whence this story came, with all the stage paraphernalia above that of the russian imperial context of the story itself.
A few actual russians would have helped make this more authentic than the stiff upper class british lip pastiche of merchant ivory than it was. The constant focus on the stage setting and its mechanics was particularly jarring.
