Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Carlo C — 26 Feb 2013
Ignore the illiterate movie summaries and reviews by people who have never read the book. This is a beautiful and, more important, faithful retelling of Tolstoy's classic. It is not a detailed retelling, which would take hours and hours, but tells the soul of the story in an original and enlightened way.
Tolstoy wanted the reader to pity Anna, not admire her. Anna was not in love with anyone but herself. The true love story, which this move does not forget, is between Levin and Kitty. And it comes across beautifully.
