Review of Animal Kingdom (2010) by Sterling B — 20 May 2011
A fantastically tense Aussie crime drama that (appropriately) sinks its teeth into you with no intention of letting go. Much of the credit belongs to writer/director David Michôd whose intense, spare script and sure handling of the story make him someone to keep an eye out for in the future. In addition, the actors all fare very well, with Joel Edgerton, Ben Mendelsohn, and Jacki Weaver turning in stand out performances. Also of note is the movie's great, moody soundtrack.
In my opinion, it's a crime that this film wasn't nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. In a field of 10 films, it certainly deserved the recognition. Easily one of the best of 2010.
