What to say? It's the Marx Brothers stage product which looks less "stagey" than "Cocoanuts". "A Night A The Opera" will always stand as the capping milestone to their careers, but "Animal Crackers" is surely a worthy #2, at least for the fact that it takes the same crowd as "Opera" and situates them on their own home territory - the estate of Mrs.

Rittenhouse - while setting them up to be pummeled by the Brothers as they try to socialize during one summer's weekend. And it doesn't hurt that the score for this movie is probably the best ever written for a Marx farce.

Many classic scenes - of which my favorites are: Groucho's monologue on Africa, and Chico and Harpo's (attempt at a) game of bridge with Mrs. Rittenhouse and her scheming, snooty neighbor Mrs.

Whitehead.
