Review of Animal Crackers (1930) by Ryan V — 15 Feb 2012
Animal Crackers has a loose plot surrounding an aristocrat (Margaret Dumont) inviting a humbug African explorer (Groucho) to her lush weekend party. Of course, this is just a flimsy pretext for the screwy capering, deadpan dialogue, goofy puns, silly cons, and cartoonish chasing that serves as the stock-in-trade for Groucho, Chico, Harpo, and Zeppo.
While not a standout for the Marx's Paramount work, this film is still a fun, vaudevillian-styled comedy.
