Review of Angry Indian Goddesses (2015) by Duncan F — 12 Aug 2016
What a ride? Are there too many issues in this movie. Yes there are. Are there too many genres mixed in this movie. Yes there are. But if you criticise that, it means you do not know anything about India, more so you know little about life and even more so you know very little about women.
Angry Indian Gooddesses is certainly a pathbreaking film for India but also for the rest of the world. And it's not surprising that it comes from a pathbreaking director ( we American yet to discover his work!!) who made masterpieces like Samsara and Valley of Flowers ( don't know these movies? Of course then you are victim of marketing glorification - go watch now to see what movies truly entertain you and in the process change your life.
) Pan Nalin's brilliant documentary Faith Connections runs like a thriller, his Art of Being feels like a healer. Angry Indian Goddesses came FirstRunner up in Audience Choice Award at Toronto way before Spotlight and The Martian but American media failed to mark that milestone - Why? It's not an American film? It's neither made by Hollywood or Bollywood studios? These are the tragic times we live in where everything reaches our eyes and ears is pushed by massive marketing machinery.
Angry Indian Goddesses is a pure delight, brilliant script and direction, innovative cinematography and editing, kick-ass music, and those seven women!? Wow I have never ever fallen in love with seven women in short span of 100 minutes!! Must watch wherever you are -with open heart (and please do yourself a favor don't use your brain, let it relax).
