Review of Angel Heart (1987) by Baurushan J — 04 Nov 2012
The 1980s is where the movies started bringing in graphic violence to the screen after the exploitation genre died out from the 1970s. Scarface (1983) is a perfect example and another example would be this film Angel Heart (1987).
Based off a manga titled "Falling Angel" and I got to say, this movie is really dark and graphically gothic trust me. The story is set in the 1950s and is about a hard-boiled cop named Harry Angel played by Mickey Rourke who is hired by Louis Cyphre played by Robert De Niro who sends him to find a missing pop singer.
Every time Harry makes contact with someone to find out the singer's whereabouts, he or she is killed in a horrible fashion. Harry solves the mystery but he doesn't know he had the answer all along is the twist- no spoilers.
It's a very good movie which is why I'm reviewing this movie in a sort of weird way giving as much way whilst trying not to give as much away. The one thing that amazed me is that Mickey Rourke looked so god dam young that he looks like Bradley Cooper even though he still resembles the Mickey Rourke we know today.
Angel Heart gets a weak 10/10 because it is amazingly graphic in it's own way and that's what makes it so good and horrifying as a horror movie itself.
