Review of Angel Heart (1987) by Matthew A — 27 Feb 2013
Mickey Rourke plays private detective Harry Angel. His quest is to track down a missing person for a mysterious New York businessman, who's played by Robert DeNiro. Eventually, Harry Angel follows the serpentine trail down to Bayou country.
This exercise in style boasts excellent cinematography by Michael Seresin and eerie music by Trevor Jones. The Faustian story/plot has been done previously, yet director Alan Parker brings a visceral, gothic ambience to the proceedings.
It's a slightly longish mood piece, which isn't for all tastes.
