It tackles the difficult story of changing relationships between father and son and succeeds because the actors rose to the occasion.
This was in no small part to Tucker's masterful direction; Broadbent's character of Arthur is both endearing and repulsive in equal measure and Firth and Beard's peformances are the key to unearthing these different sides of him.
Without wanting to ruin the end, I've never been that close to crying during a film in a very long time; absolutely brilliant and worthy of award recognition.
