Review of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) by Brandon L — 26 Jan 2013
If you hate Will Ferrell, don't bother. If you like him, you'll love him here. Better than Old School, Will Ferrell is at his best in Anchorman as the ridiculous Ron Burgundy. The humor is often low-brow, occasionally raunchy and sometimes just plain childish, but hilarious for the most part, relying on the cast to deliver.
In this case, the cast succeeds, an all-star cast perfectly suited for each role, with Steve Carell bursting into Hollywood as the naive (and not too bright) Brick, to Fred Willard as the dopey network executive, to Christina Applegate as the stereotypically overly ambitious female reporter trying to make news anchor and becoming Ron's love interest turned rival.
Some jokes fall flat, and the story isn't anything unique, but this is a great comedy you definitely shouldn't miss.4 stars: Great, very funny.
