Review of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) by James W — 18 Jun 2014
A legendary battle between one of the most jaw dropping ensembles in comedy. Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carrell go up against James Marsden, Kanye West, Will Smith, Marion Cottilard, Liam Neeson, Jim Carey, Kirsten Dunst, Vine Vaughn, Greg Kinnear, Harrison Ford, Sacha Baron Cohen, John C. Reilly and comedy babes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, I hope I didn't forget anyone, this star power filled scene had me starstruck, amazed and absolutely thrilled with entertainment, and laughing to the point of tears, super funny!
That is my favourite part of this hilarious movie, now the rest of this review goes to the remainder of The Legend Continues, a massive step up from the first film, offering bigger and better laughs more often, an enormous all star cast, a tonne of slapstick and silliness, and more Brick. The story is the last thing I focused on as I was laughing all the time, but it's all about Ron and his team getting on a 24 hour news show, fighting for ratings and also dealing with their own lives. Every single performance is pitch perfect, everyone has their fair amount of gags and screen time, and the news team we've come to love are as brilliant as ever. Ron Burgundy, Champ Kind, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Veronica Corningstone have stayed classy!
The cast is just too big to name and praise, I thought Meagan Good was fantastic as feisty and sassy Linda Jackson, the runner of GNN, James Marsden proves great opposition for Burgundy, but for me Kristen Wiig yet again steals the limelight, she is truly a comedy force. She plays Chani Lastname (That surname had me howling with laughter), a love interest for Brick. Between the two complete odd balls they murmur, stare at each other, kiss with their teeth, and ask each other some of the weirdest, most funniest questions ever. If you can call it chemistry it's positively shining with madness, Adam McKay knows how to reel out constant laughs with his smooth and well handled direction.
The love scene which was pretty much a montage of images between Linda and Ron is yet another highlight, Brick's own funeral, the first time Ron meets Linda, and the many cock ups of Ron's anchor past shown in the first 10 minutes are also sequences that will leave you in agony from laughing. This is a comedy highlight of 2013, so odd, so silly, yet so funny.
