Review of Anatomy of a Murder (1959) by Deanna B — 20 May 2008
An intriguing, although unspectacular, courtroom drama. Jimmy Stewart fits perfectly into his role, while George C. Scott makes a potent rival. The plot carries some interesting connotations. Most of it consists of a murder/rape trial, with relatively little time to set things up.
Although the crime is straightforward, every single aspect of it is considered. The periodic gags (such as some of Stewart's lines) help prevent it from becoming dull. Very accurate atmosphere and solid all-around film.
