Review of Anamorph (2007) by James T — 08 Feb 2010
This film was lost from the outset, and I donâ??t think it knew where it was going, the storyline was a good one but I donâ??t think it was executed correctly. Willem Dafoe plays a very OCD detective who investigates a series of grizzly deaths linked to a killer called â??Uncle Eddieâ?? who uses a technique called anamorphosis, a painting technique that manipulates the laws of perspective to create two competing images on a single canvasâ?¦ however in this case replace canvas for bodies.
It has a distinctive Se7en feel about it but Dafoe is no Morgan Freeman and Scott Speedman who is along side him is certainly no Brad Pitt. The film is confusing as it is bland an even the moments of tension seem to fall flat, as for the ending, well this is pure madness on every level.
1 Star!!
