Review of Analyze This (1999) by Tim G — 17 Sep 2009
The first film Robert De Niro stared in that wasn't a serious serious gangster like role for a number of years, analyze this though a bit dated (as it was filmed 10 yrs ago) is really funny and a good example of mainstream comedy.
Billy Crystal plays a generally happy psychiatrist with "issues", most notably the fact that his father is a more famous psychiatrist with a forthcoming book and he is listening to monotonous cases from a range of weirdos.
De niro is a big time gangster that suddenly starts having panic attacks and after a chance encounter hires Billy Crystal as his shink and the worst time for Crystals character, thus suddenly this small time Doctor is now involved with matters way above his PHD.
The film is essentially about the interplay between De Niro and Crystal but it is also about the peculiarities of society's 'issues' and the role of therapists.
The film can be a little predictable and long in the middle however and is a tad predictable, however for the prices that this dvd is currently (after the length of time it has been released) retailing at I would certainly recommend buying it.
