Review of An Ideal Husband (1999) by Tsukasa A — 30 Dec 2011
Were it not for the frivolous, and extremely charismatic charm of Rupert Everett, this adaptation of Oscar Wild's drama about gentleman's character would be rather bland. Jeremy Northam and Cate Blanchett, though truthfully very good actors, give very dry stagey performances.
Everett, helped along by romantic opposite Minnie Driver, who is absolutely adorable, makes it all a very fun worthwhile event, and helps to elevate Wild's play into the realm of enjoyable film.
